New! Text entry search box
Filed Under Blogroll by admin | Leave a Comment
We’ve added a text entry search box with autosuggestion and autofill. You can use it to search for properties using a postcode, local area name, town, city, council areas or Citylets reference number.
As you type suggestions will display, narrowing down the possibilities as each additional letter is typed. So, if you are looking for flats to rent in Bruntsfield, typing in B r u will narrow the possibilities to Bruntsfield and will autofill the text box. Alternatively, if you know the postcode of the area you’d like to rent a property, type the first part eg G12 (the autosuggestion will switch off when a number is typed), narrow your search criteria using the other fields eg 2 bed, flat, £500-900, or just hit return to return all properties to rent in G12.
If all you know is you’d like to rent in eg the south of Glasgow then typing Glas will suggest a number of Glasgow options – use your mouse or keyboard arrows to select Glasgow, South. Similarly using your mouse or keyboard arrows is quickest on those occasions where there are multiple place or area names. For example, there’s a ‘West End’ in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen and Dundee.
Of course you can still search by city eg Aberdeen, Belfast or town name, Stirling, Ayr, and also council areas such as Renfrewshire or Ayrshire North. Finally, if you have a Citylets reference number eg LG69420 from The Citylets Lettings Guide, typing the number will return the schedule for the property providing it is still available.
We hope you like the text entry search box and find it easy to use. Let us know if you have any suggestions or comments.

Crunch Times in Letting
Filed Under Blogroll by admin | Leave a Comment
The current credit crunch in the UK may mean a slowdown for many parts of the economy but the residential letting sector in Scotland is flying at the start of 2008. Citylets has recorded its busiest January to date with the volume of searches launched for property to let in Edinburgh and Glasgow increasing 24.7% and 19.4% respectively on last year.
While there is talk of economic adversity, people will be wary of buying homes. Others simply will not be granted their mortgage. This will drive more people to rent and for longer and we expect the demand for properties will continue to soar well into Q3 of 2008. This is good news for private landlords and their agents but tenants should expect to see rent rises in some areas.
Managing Director Thomas Ashdown commented:
“It only stands to reason that we are seeing an increase in demand in the letting sector, something we have been expecting over the last 6 months, but the size and speed of the increase is of interest. Most noticeably demand for 2 bed property in edinburgh has shot up by over 30%.

New To Citylets Network- Szkocja.net
Filed Under Blogroll by admin | Leave a Comment
Citylets has further extended its network and local reach through an exclusive partnership with Szkocja.net, the leading Polish community portal. The majority of properties placed on Citylets will now appear on szkocja.net fully translated within 24hours. Its property channel, though one of many facilities of the site, is one of the most visited and we regard this tie up as your guaranteed way of reaching this large rental market.
Citylets MD Thomas Ashdown commented, “Partnering with Szkocja.net is in my view one of our best tie ups for the Citylets Network over the last few years. It is phenomenally popular as a focal point for Polish Nationals in this country averaging 600 000 unique visitors per month.”
Szkocja.net meets a much needed public service to the estimated 100k Polish migrants estimated to be living in Scotland but it is privately funded by far sighted Polish nationals who have now found themselves pivotal figures in the Polish & Scottish communities.
We congratulate Szkocja.net for their exceptional efforts & professionalism and welcome them to our network.

Bigger in Belfast
Filed Under Belfast Property News, Blogroll by admin | Leave a Comment
As you may have already noted, our expansion into Belfast in Northern Ireland has been quietly gaining momentum over the past year or so. Our growth has precipitated the appointment of Mark Crossey as our new Business Development Manager for the region. A Belfast resident with a background in property development, Mark is ideally placed to manage our plans for the province.
The rental market is continuing to thrive in Belfast due to substantial price hikes in house sales in recent years, making renting a flat an ever more competitive alternative. Demand for rental units is high and already Citylets is becoming a major route to market after just one year.
Mark is more than happy to introduce Citylets to letting agents in the area – he said, “Advertising choice for rental agents in Northern Ireland has been limited over the years but now Citylets has arrived on the scene. It’s clear that the market in Scotland has been diverse and competitive – the product I’ve been asked to deliver here is well above what local agents are used to.”
We have been targeting the top letting agents in Belfast to try our property advertising, and we are proud to welcome the following agents:
Braemore (Belfast)
141 Lettings
Daniel McGeown & Co

BTW Shiells
Gerry O’Connor
Belvoir Lettings (East Belfast)
Belvoir Lettings (South Belfast)

Citylets supports Shelter Scotland
Filed Under Blogroll by admin | Leave a Comment
We are delighted to announce that we have hooked up with Shelter Scotland to raise money for the top housing and homeless charity. A small fee from each property listed will now be donated to the charity – meaning Shelter is set to benefit from a guaranteed £5000 donation over the coming year.
Over 25,000 properties are advertised through our network each year and we are proud to be making an association with the charity. Thomas Ashdown, our MD, said that, “Being in property, Shelter is a natural choice for us and the organisation is well known to many of our clients who deal with the charity on a regular basis.”
Archie Stoddart, Director of Shelter Scotland said, “We are pleased that Citylets have chosen to raise money for Shelter Scotland. Our housing aid centres and families projects across the country offer support and advice to people who are homeless or badly housed and the money raised will help us to continue this work.”
